What exactly is a CLT? Is that another name for a BLT (bacon lettuce and tomato sandwich) except with chicken? Sorry, nowhere near.
A CLT, Certified Landscape Technician, stands for an individual of exceptional ability and skill, certified in all aspects of landscape industry specializing in maintenance and irrigation, plant material, and irrigation installation.
The CLT is an international hands-on testing program administered by the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA), that seeks to recognize proficiency in the landscape workforce, upgrade the status of the landscape professional and provide the public with a means of identifying qualified landscape professionals.
To become a Certified Landscape Technician, an applicant must pass the Common Elements plus a Core Test.
CLCA has joined forces with the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ACLA) to offer three core tests in Installation, Maintenance and Irrigation in addition to Advanced Specialties.
Successful completion of the Installation test demonstrates that an individual has the minimum skills to take a landscape blueprint and implement the design in the field.
Passing the irrigation test demonstrates that a person has the skills to install and maintain an irrigation system and understand the fundamentals of water management.
Developed and organized by CLCA’s Certification Committee, the exam was first administered 1983. In 1994, ALCA purchased the rights to exam and began to offer it to state associations for national administration.
Benefits of Certification, include:
● Promotes professionalism for individuals
● Provides international recognition
● Validates landscape skills
● Your Company is registered as an employee of Certified Landscape Technicians
● Creates opportunities for career advancement in the industry
● Persons passing a certification test will receive a numbered certificate, identification card, and logo items.
As one can see, the benefits becoming CLT certified are many. Tierra Verde Landscape, Inc. is proud to boast that we currently employee 3 Certified Landscape Technicians.
